HELP / COURSES / ADD QUESTIONS AND POINTS

Add questions and points

Quiz and Ordering pages are the two page types that can be scored. This covers the fields inside each, and how the points you set here feed into Required Points to Pass on the Course Settings tab.

BEFORE YOU START

You need a Multiple Choice Quiz or Ordering Quiz page already added to the course. See Add and reorder pages if you haven't created one yet.

Write a quiz question

Open a Multiple Choice Quiz page's Edit view. There's an optional block above the question itself, then the question and its scoring.

1

Optionally fill in the Preamble — an HTML block shown above the question, useful for an image or a bit of context. Leave it empty to skip it entirely.

2

Write the Question Text, then set Points — the points awarded for a correct answer.

3

Leave Count towards final score on if these points should contribute to the course total. Turn it off and the question still displays and is still marked right or wrong for the participant — its points simply don't add up anywhere.

Add answer options

Below the question sit the answer options themselves.

4

Choose Add Answer for each option, and tick Correct Answer on the ones that are right. You need at least two answer options, with at least one marked correct, before the page will save.

5

Drag an answer by its handle to change its order, or choose Remove to drop it — the form won't let you go below two.

6

Turn on Show options randomly if each participant should see the answers in a different order. This option only appears once you're editing an existing question, not while creating the page.

Build an ordering question

Ordering Quiz pages use the same idea, but the participant arranges items instead of picking one.

7

Write the Instruction Text — describe what the participant should order, for example "Arrange these steps in the correct order". Set Points, awarded for the correct sequence.

8

Choose Add Item to build the Items in Correct Order list, entered in the sequence you want them solved in. You need at least three items, and each one needs text before the page will save.

9

Drag items by their handle to change the order they're stored in — this is what "correct" is checked against, so make sure it matches the sequence you actually want.

How points reach Required Points to Pass

The Course Settings tab's scoring section adds up the points from every Quiz and Ordering page where Count towards final score is on, and compares that total with whatever you set as Required Points to Pass.

A COMMON MISTAKE

Unchecking Count towards final score on a question removes its points from that total silently — the question keeps appearing to participants exactly as before, but it no longer counts. If a course that used to be passable suddenly isn't, this is the first thing to check.

If something isn't working

The page won't save

A quiz needs at least two answers with one marked correct; an ordering question needs at least three items, all with text filled in.

Remove or the trash icon won't take an answer or item below the minimum

That's by design — two answers and three items are the floor for each question type.

A warning says no participant will be able to pass

Required Points to Pass on the Course Settings tab is higher than the total scored points across the course. Lower it, add more scored questions, or check that Count towards final score is on where you expect it.

Show options randomly isn't there

It only shows up once the question exists — save the page first, then reopen Edit to find it.

What next

Once the questions are in and the points add up, run through the course as a participant would before it goes live.
