HELP / COURSES / PREVIEW A COURSE BEFORE PUBLISHING

Preview a course before publishing

Preview Course opens the real course flow — same pages, same questions — without registering as a participant or writing anything to the database. It's the way to catch a wrong answer key or a broken pass rule before anyone else sees it.

4 MIN READ UPDATED 4 AUG 2026 DASHBOARD → COURSES → EDIT COURSE

BEFORE YOU START

The course needs at least one page. An empty course previews straight to nothing to look at.

Open the preview

1

Choose Preview Course at the top of the course editor. It opens in a new tab.

2

You land straight on the first page — there's no intro screen or registration form to click through first, the way a real participant would see.

The "PREVIEW — nothing is saved" banner stays visible on every page of the walkthrough.

What preview does and doesn't do

Preview reuses the exact same templates and page-by-page logic a real participant gets, with a few deliberate differences underneath.

Registration Skipped entirely. You're dropped in as a stand-in "Preview Mode" participant.
Results Nothing is written. Finishing a preview never creates a row on the course's Results page.
Certificates and webhooks Neither fires. Passing a preview does not issue a certificate or call a Completion Webhook.
Archived courses Previewable regardless of status — Preview Course works even while the course is Archived, which is useful while you're still building it.
The initial link Expires after a short window if left unopened. Once you're in, there's no time limit on working through the pages themselves — reopen Preview Course from the editor if the link has gone stale.

GOOD TO KNOW

Because nothing is saved, you can preview the same course as many times as you like without cluttering Read course results with test attempts. Use that freely — answer badly on purpose once, to confirm the fail path looks right too.

Test both outcomes

3

Walk through once answering correctly, to confirm the pass screen and any certificate assignment look right.

4

Run it again answering badly on purpose, to confirm the fail screen and that Required Points to Pass is set where you think it is.

5

Close the tab when you're done. There's nothing to submit or clean up — the preview session simply ends.

If something isn't working

Preview Course redirects me to the course page instead of opening the walkthrough

The link has expired. Go back to the editor and choose Preview Course again to get a fresh one.

There's no Preview Course button

Save the course at least once first — the button only appears once the course record exists with its own identifier.

A pass I expected to happen didn't

Check Required Points to Pass against the total scored points shown in Course Settings — it's a common cause of an unexpected fail, in preview or for real.

What next

Once a preview run looks right, the course is ready to go live.
