Publish, unpublish and clone a course

A course only ever has two states — Published or Archived — there is no draft state. This covers switching between them, what archiving mid-course actually does to participants already inside, and using Clone course to start a new version without rebuilding from zero.

Publish or archive a course

Status lives on the Course Settings tab, as two pills: Published and Archived.

Open the course, go to Course Settings, and choose Published or Archived in the status banner at the top.

There's no separate "Publish" button elsewhere in the app — this pair of pills is the only place status changes. The course list page shows the current status as plain text next to each row, but it isn't editable from there.

GOOD TO KNOW

Clicking a status pill saves immediately — it doesn't wait for you to press Save Course Settings. The other tabs' forms carry the current status along quietly in the background so re-saving them never resets it by accident.

What happens to participants mid-course

Archiving takes effect immediately, with no grace period for anyone already partway through. Every page a participant loads re-checks the course's status, so the very next page turn after you archive a course sends them back to the front page instead — their progress isn't flagged or recovered, it's simply abandoned. If you need to pull a course while people are actively using it, consider warning them first; there's no built-in way to let existing attempts finish.

A COMMON MISTAKE

Archiving a course to make a quick edit, forgetting anyone is mid-attempt. If the course has active participants, prefer editing it live and using Preview Course to check your changes, rather than archiving and republishing around them.

Clone a course

Clone course sits on the course list, as a row action next to Edit and Delete — not inside the editor itself.

On the Courses list, choose Clone course on the row you want to copy.

You're dropped straight into the new copy's editor, titled "Copy of" the original. Rename it and make whatever's different, then publish it in its own time.

Clone course sits between View results and Delete on each row.

What comes along, and what doesn't:

COPIED All pages, in order; every question, answer and points value; Description, Public Language, Category / Tag, Validity (days), Data Retention Period (days), Required Points to Pass and Show answers on results page.

NOT COPIED Results and participant history; the assigned Certification; Completion Webhooks; the expiry-reminder email under Notifications. Each needs setting again on the copy.

ALWAYS The copy gets its own public link and starts as Archived, no matter what the original's status was — so it's never accidentally live before you've had a chance to review it.

If something isn't working

Participants say the course disappeared

It's likely Archived. Set it back to Published on the Course Settings tab and the public link works again immediately.

The certificate isn't attached on my cloned course

Certificate assignment doesn't carry over on Clone course. Open the Certification tab on the new copy and pick it again.

I published the cloned course and nobody can access it via the old link

That's expected — cloning generates a brand new public link. Share the copy's own link from its editor; the original course's link still points only to the original.
