Create an Other Course

An Other Course stands for training a participant completes outside lms.HSE.swiss — a first aid course, a licence, an external certification. Instead of pages and quizzes, the participant uploads proof and you review it. This walks through creating one.

BEFORE YOU START

You need at least one client, and Other Courses needs to be enabled as a feature on your account. If either is missing, the New Other Course button won't appear on the Other Courses page.

Create the course record

Other Courses live on their own page, separate from regular courses, with the same client-based ownership.

1

Open Other Courses from the sidebar and choose New Other Course.

2

Enter a Title. It's the only required field besides the client.

3

Add an optional URL (optional) pointing to where the training actually happens, and a Description for context.

4

Pick the Language (English, Deutsch or Français) and the Client that owns this course.

Choose the proof type

This decides what a participant submits as evidence of completion.

5

Set Proof Type to Certificate for a document upload, or Signature if completion is confirmed by signing instead.

Proof Type can be changed later from the edit screen, so it isn't a one-way decision.

Set an expiry, if the course has one

Some Other Courses never expire — a licence issued once. Others need renewing on a schedule.

6

Optionally set Expires after (days, optional). When an admin later approves an uploaded certificate, its expiry is computed as the completion date plus this many days. Leave it empty and certificates for this course never expire by default.

7

Choose Create.

GOOD TO KNOW

Creating the course here doesn't put it in front of anyone. A participant only becomes eligible to upload a certificate against it once the course is added to a bundle they're assigned to.

If something isn't working

The New Other Course button doesn't appear

You need at least one client, and Other Courses must be enabled on your account. If it isn't, trying to reach a course action directly shows "This feature is not enabled on your account."

"Title and client are required" on submit

Both fields are mandatory. Everything else in the New Other Course modal is optional.

What next

An Other Course sitting on its own doesn't reach anyone. Add it to a bundle so the participants assigned to that bundle can see it and submit proof.
